The Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has stated that through regulation, the renewable energy would generate 2, 000mw of electricity in the year 2020 According to the statement from NERC Public Relations Affairs, “the law, Feed-in Tariff Regulations for Renewable Energy Sourced Electricity in Nigeria”, was approved at the last regulatory meeting of the Commission.

Power Ministry Plans New Departments To Improve Efficiency

The ministry of power is planning a restructuring that will see the creation of new departments in an effort to improve efficiency and deliver stable electricity to Nigerians. The new departments will include the Energy Resources Department (ERD) which will be charged with dealing with power generation from both public and private plants, with the transmission and distribution department handling the related issues alone. Also to be created is the Renewable Energy Department which will handle issues of rural electrification.
